Smart Homes are where we live not just how the building is set on the property. A multifamily community and commercial buildings can use the same technology when we think of a Smart Home. Any property/building can become smart, but smart home just sounds right. 

Smart Control in Your Apartment 

Smart Homes are about controlling the living/working spaces with automation and machine learning. In a smart home your thermostat can tell you what the weather is going to be like and adjust the heat or cooling to coordinate with that forecast. 

Creating the right command can turn a bright room into a shade-closed-lights-off movie environment. The same voice can lock your front door and arm your security system. The smart home house was the start of this trend, but there is no reason that an apartment can’t be a smart home.  

Trending in the Right Direction 

Homeowners and some commercial tenants have been able to take advantage of these products/automation for years now, but until recently this has been a dream for people living in multifamily properties. Many properties have allowed their tenants to have better control of their heat with smart thermostats, or help secure their unit and the property with access cameras and locks. 

These amenities are seen as important from prospective residents, and properties are finding it hard to compete if they do not have the right equipment. Modern technology has allowed this equipment to flourish. As more products get introduced to the market the ease of use is decreasing, making them approachable by owners/managers for all types of properties.
